Artist Statement

As a collage artist, I draw inspiration from overlooked fragments of our material world. My collages, often abstract self-portraits, range from small, intimate pieces to larger, confrontational ones. They evolve from controlled chaos into simplified imagery reflecting life transitions. Through diverse materials like tape, bandages, buttons, and string, I explore human experiences, relationships, and memories.

My process involves rearranging and tearing objects with past histories, such as images of the human body, found images, and handwritten journal entries. I use colors to evoke emotions, connecting the viewer to my work's core. Insights from previous works are repurposed to reconsider thematic motifs, often focusing on the visceral nature of the human body to provoke raw responses. Working urgently keeps my creativity dynamic, capturing expressions as they arise.

Juxtaposing different elements, I aim to confront viewers with raw emotional connections. Unconventional materials like sharp needles or used band-aids evoke unsettling responses. My collages push boundaries to capture the essence of a piece, exploring mundane and ephemeral aspects of life. Recurring symbols intertwine with personal notes and candid photographs, confronting a range of emotions.

My work investigates the balance between holding on and letting go through layers of paper and glue, symbolizing permanence and impermanence. Techniques like ripping or burning material explore emotional release and the tension between stability and transformation. This invites viewers to reflect on their own relationships with holding on and letting go. My goal is to discover complex beauties within the fragments of our shared existence, exploring the inherent vulnerabilities of the human form.
