Biography


Aliyah Martin was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado, and now resides in Queens, New York. She graduated with a B.F.A major in Studio Art and a minor in Psychology from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. Aliyah is an artist best known for their process of transforming scrap materials into eccentric collages which are often self-portraits, both of which are abstract and naturalistic, that describe the complexities of the human experience.

In 2022, Aliyah Martin was honored to be selected as a student ambassador for the non-profit organization Artivism 4Shared Humanity discussion panel. Aliyah introduced distinguished local New York art therapists who discussed the importance of creative activism within regulated systems, such as prisons. Artivism 4Shared Humanity also conducted  Art for a Purpose Multi-Venue Global Exhibition, where Aliyah Martin’s artwork was put on display at Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center Gallery. This exhibit showcased a collaborative group of artists from diverse backgrounds that explored societal transformation in art.

Furthering their commitment to the arts community, Aliyah secured an internship in 2021 with renowned female art activist Linda Stein, based in New York City. During this internship, she participated in archiving Stein's extensive body of work and enhanced its accessibility through the development of an online collection database. Aliyah's artwork was showcased in 2023 at Sunrise Sunset's monthly event in Brooklyn, New York, where local artists were provided a space to exhibit their creations that foster community engagement. Additionally, she participated in Adelphi University's BFA Senior Thesis Exhibition of 2024, displaying her work within The Adele and Herbert L. Klapper Gallery at the University Center.
